A descendant of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Sayyidina Hussein (may Allah be pleased with him), Habib Salem was born in Tarim, Hadhramout, Yemen. He is the son of a great scholar and is currently the school principal of a reputable and traditional Islamic school, Rubat Tarim. The school was established in 1886 and has produced great Islamic scholars that have spread Islam in Asia, South-East Asia and Africa.
Habib Salem started his education at a very young age. He did his foundation studies under his father’s direct tutelage and supervision. He later pursued his studies in Mecca under the guidance of a well-known Islamic scholar, Shaykh Sayyid Abbas al-Maliki, who was then a teacher in Masjidil Haram (Holy Mosque of Mecca). He also studied with over 100 Islamic scholars in Mecca, Madinah, Abu Dhabi, Aden and Tarim.
Habib Salem is often invited to appear on media (television & radio) interviews. He has authored several books on Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Arabic grammar and Tassawuf (Islamic spirituality). He is an expert on the fields of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and Tasawwuf (Islamic spirituality).
Habib Salem is a member of the majlis fatwa (fatwa committee) in Hadhramout. He is regularly invited all over the world to deliver lectures and for specialist discussions on Islam. He last visited Singapore in 2004 to deliver a series of well-attended lectures in many Mosques.
